Google Maps Walking Directions

Perhaps it is a sign of the times, but those who walk to destinations whenever possible will be pleased to learn that Google maps has a "walking" option when searching for directions.

Do you live in an area where walking is a good alternative to driving? One service ranked my neighborhood as 54 out of 100 on a scale of walkability. The only problem is that the temperatures are too hot most of the time in Texas (where I live) to walk anywhere.
Do you see yourself walking more?
